Importing EbscoHost Records into EndNote
There are two methods for transferring records to EndNote. Use Direct Export when you are using the computer on which EndNote is loaded. When this is not the case you must use the Save or Email feature.
Direct Export
- Conduct your search in the desired database.
- Click on Add to Folder under each record to be saved.
- Click on Folder View on right to display all records in folder.
- Click in the box to the left of each record to be exported.
- Click on Export.
- Click in the radio button next to Direct export to EndNote, Procite, or Reference Manager.
- Click on Save.
- Direct Export records will be automatically transferred to the EndNote library of your choice.
Saving records for later importing
- Conduct your search in the desired database.
- Click on Add to Folder under each record to be saved.
- Click on Folder View on right to display all records in folder.
- Click in the box to the left of each record to be exported.
- Click on Export.
- Click in the radio button next to Generic bibliographic management software
- Select File and Save As.
Identify your disk drive and filename plus the extension .txt (plain text) in the File Name Box.
Example: a:myfile.txt - Click on OK.
If emailing records, you must then save them with a file name from your email program before importing them into EndNote.
Importing Saved Records
- Open an EndNote library.
- Click on File and Import.
- Click on Choose file to choose your saved records filename.
- Click on Open.
- At the Import option box select Other Filters.
- Choose the desired EbscoHost database name.
- Click on Choose.
- CLick on Import.
If you have a problem with importing
your
Click on File and Import Filters.
Click on Edit (your database name).
There are several options for editing here. One of the most common problems in importing records is when only one of several records imports.
Click on Record
Layout to the left of the screen.
Look at what is selected to see if EndNote is recognizing the separation of
records. Smart Identification lets EndNote decide and this
is usually successful.
