The Memorial Library is participating in the NBC15 Share Your Holidays to Eliminate Hunger food drive again this year, from November 4, 2013 through December 4, 2013. The barrel is already in the front lobby, so donate soon! Second Harvest Foodbank, co-sponsor of the Share Your Holidays campaign, asks for nonperishable food items: boxed pasta, peanut butter, tuna, canned soups, applesauce, canned fruits, canned meats, and canned vegetables. They are also asking for non-food items such as bath soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, laundry detergent, toilet paper, and more. Cash donations have tremendous purchasing power for Second Harvest.

Memorial Library has participated in the Share Your Holidays campaign for the past 15 years. The Library’s most successful year was in 2001, which earned a total of 923 meals for those in need. Over the past 15 years, the Library has donated over 3500 meals total! Debi Doyle, from Central Technical Services in the Memorial Library, has been running this food drive since the beginning, when she approached the Director asking to participate. She hopes that this year librarians can rally and make 2013 the best year yet.

“We continue to contribute to this needy cause because our library community is a very giving group of people,” Doyle said. “We know there is a need, and we rise to the challenge to give to those in need.”

To donate, there is a barrel for non-perishable food items and non-food items in the front lobby of Memorial Library. Donations will be accepted until December 4, 2013. If you choose to contribute cash, you can call Second Harvest at (608) 223-9121 or send your contribution to Second Harvest Foodbank, 2802 Dairy Drive, Madison, WI 53718.
