MADISON, Wis. -- A survey of 5,000 randomly selected UW-Madison students, faculty and staff will be conducted by the libraries March 27-April 10 using the Web-based tool LibQUAL+. The 10-minute e-mail survey will help to improve library services, policies and environmental enhancements to more effectively serve the campus.

Survey results will provide statistics on the differences between the level of service users receive, their minimum service expectations and desired level of service. These results can then be used to compare the UW-Madison Libraries to other peer institutions nationwide that have utilized the LibQUAL+ survey.

The survey consists of questions related to three areas: attitudes and feelings about library service, accessibility and control of information and the library as a place. Additional questions will also gauge user satisfaction, library usage and demographics. Participants are invited to make additional comments.

Participants will access the survey through a link in an e-mail message. Reminder e-mails will be sent out after the first invitation. Respondents remain anonymous, but once participants complete the survey, they may choose to submit their names separately for a prize drawing.

This is the second wave of LibQUAL+ surveys conducted by the library in a longitudinal study; the first was conducted in spring 2004. To learn more about the LibQUAL+ survey and how it will benefit the campus community, visit: http://www.libqual.org.
