Student Award Recipients
Every semester the staff at College Library are pleased to acknowledge the oustanding efforts of two students assistants with the Excellence-in-Service Award. In a tradition dating back to 2006, nominations are solicited for student workers who provide outstanding public service to patrons of the library, who demonstrate exemplary working relationships, who are productive and work to create a welcoming learning and research environment.
This year the recipients of the award are both graduating seniors – Chelle Yang, an assistant in the library’s computer lab, and Tianyu Han, from the collection management department. According to their nomination letters, both students are exceptionally committed to ensuring a positive experience for library users. Chelle, who worked in the CMC for three years, is described as, “always willing to help patrons with anything and always takes the time to explain and make sure they understand what they’re doing.” This care and concern carries over to new staff in the computer lab. According to her nomination, “Chelle strives to make the processes at our desk faster, easier, and more understandable. She’s also attentive to new hires and makes sure everyone understands what is going on.”
Tianya spent two years working circulation at the library’s Info Desk and in that time became known as, “an Alma-aficionado, a stapler-wizard, and a printer-whisperer.” He also has the ability to make “patrons feel welcome and supported and his desk colleagues feel fortunate to work alongside him.” We often ask much of our student assistants, including the time Tianyu helped “perform damage control on a suddenly overflowing bathroom.” In this instance, he and another student assistant went above and beyond the “call of doodie.”
Both Chelle and Tianyu are deserving of this award for their exceptional work ethic, positive attitude, and emphasis on customer service. We extend our appreciation to them and all of the student assistants who keep the library running on a daily basis.
