Restroom Remodeling Project
Visitors to College Library may notice some disruptions this spring semester – jack-hammers, work crews, closed restrooms – but the final result will be such an improvement that library staff hope all will agree that the discomfort was worth it! Beginning February 14, both restrooms on the 3rd floor will be closed as contractors remove brick walls to expand the facilities, nearly doubling their capacity.
Crews will be working from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., so the majority of library patrons will be unaffected by the noise and disorder. We’re also warning students that the remaining four restrooms may be busier than usual, but that there are additional options at the Memorial Union (just across the street) or a mere elevator ride away on Floors 4 through 7 of Helen C. White Hall.
The construction project is slated to continue through the end of April with a break for the exam period and then pick back up as the restrooms on floors 1 and 2 are also revamped. In addition to new fixtures and more stalls, the library is also pleased that plans for two gender-neutral, single-stall restrooms have also been approved.
College Library is grateful to the Chancellor’s Office for allocating gift monies to fund this project and to FP&M for their timeline and project coordination. Although things may be worse before they get better, the library will be so much more functional when this work is completed.
