Cupcake Giveaway

College Library celebrated Helen C. White’s 126th birthday on Monday, November 28, by giving away 126 cupcakes to library patrons. A longstanding tradition at the library, the cupcake giveaway takes place as close to the date of Helen’s birth, November 26, 1896, as possible.
In addition to her books and scholarship, Helen C. White was the first woman full professor in the UW’s College of Letters and Science and in 1955 she became the first female chair of the university’s English Department.
