Self-Checkout Retired
College Library recently removed the self-checkout unit from the 1st Floor Center area. What we hoped would be an unmediated checkout experience for our patrons failed to materialize. More often than not, staff had to intervene when the unit was unable to scan an item’s barcode. After additional testing, it was determined that the self-checkout machine, which College Library inherited from the former Wendt Library, had reached the end of its technological life-span.
According to Ian Benton, the Reference & Circulation Services Librarian, “the library remains committed to providing a self-checkout option for our patrons and we are currently exploring options in order to resume this service.”
