Tell Us Your Favorite Poem!
Bella, an ISIP intern, has been working with staff of College Library to learn the ins-and-outs of collection development. As an undergraduate student interested in poetry, she chose to focus on the Gaus Poetry Collection. It is one of the library’s featured collections, with books on poetry, art, creative writing, and literary studies. It supports coursework, as well as encouraging people to read poetry for fun and pleasure.
With some of her favorite poetry being that of Rupi Kaur, Sylvia Plath, and similar works, Bella has added over a dozen new titles to the Gaus Collection. Two of the books she thinks everyone should definitely read are Home Body by Rupi Kaur and Puedes hacerme lo que quieras by Miguel Gane. Both of these works will be in the collection soon! In addition to adding her favorite titles, Bella would like to know the poets her fellow undergraduates like to read. She has worked with library staff to create a survey! Let us know about the types of poetry, authors, or even programming, you would like to see as we continue to expand the Gaus Collection.
The collection was founded with the donation of Prof. John M. Gaus‘ personal poetry library and is funded by an endowment established by his friends and students. Prof. Gaus taught public administration at the University of Wisconsin from 1927 to 1947. On a national level he served as a consultant to the National Resources Planning Board, the Tennessee Valley Authority, the National Housing Administration, and the Federal Economics Administration.
