Congrats Award Recipients!
College Library is delighted to announce the recipients of the 2024 Excellence-in-Service Awards. These awards honor student assistants who have demonstrated outstanding customer service, exemplary working relationships, high productivity, initiative, and have helped create a welcoming learning and research environment at the library.
This year, we are proud to recognize Luis Antonio-Reyes and Ryan Ross for their exceptional contributions.
Luis Antonio-Reyes has been a cornerstone of our Circulation team since he was hired in the fall of 2019. One of his nominators shared, “Luis is our longest tenured Circ student. This was Luis’s first job ever, and he’s stayed with us from pre-COVID, through COVID’s height, and after. During that time he has weathered library policy/procedure changes, many eras of student staff, new collections and dissolved ones, too. I think Luis’s longevity has something to do with his ability to relate to his co-workers and our patrons.” Luis has grown in his position and, according to his supervisor, “has been successful because he is inquisitive, not afraid to ask questions, and takes in all information to make his approach to work stronger.” Other Circ students know they can rely on Luis to give them direction when needed and follow his example for how to treat patrons and navigate complex interactions. We have been lucky to know and work with Luis for so long, helping us to succeed and improve along the way.
Ryan Ross is a standout member of the End-User Computing unit, providing tech support and equipment checkout to College Library patrons. One of his nominators noted, “Ryan is the best to work with. He knows the library like the back of his hand, and is a great leader. He recently has been taking a crack at organizing the backroom, which definitely needs it. The cool thing is he has been asking for other people’s opinions and for their help to make the space usable for everyone.” His supervisors added, “Ryan has been a lead for about a semester and a half now, and has taken on several projects to help better the patron and staff experience. This includes re-cabling the tables in our active learning space as well as finding innovative ways to secure our mac minis. Ryan has also been working on reorganizing and building a logical organization structure in the back room, which will help to support our staff throughout College Library, as well as our patrons in getting speedy customer service. In his time with us, Ryan has also been invaluable in helping with SOAR set up, take down and support. Ryan has helped instill the EUC’s values in our new staff through his excellent in-service trainings. This includes College Library’s public service values, and how those apply specifically at our desk in a technology support environment. In summation, Ryan’s demeanor, attitude and work exemplifies the values of College Library and the EUC, and he has been an absolute joy to work with.”
College Library is dedicated to supporting the academic and research needs of its students, faculty, and staff. With a wide range of resources and services, the library strives to create an environment that fosters learning, discovery, and collaboration. The Excellence-in-Service Awards highlight the invaluable contributions of student assistants to the library’s mission. Their commitment to excellence sets a high standard for future student employees and underscores the importance of service in the academic community.
We congratulate Luis and Ryan and thank all of our student assistants for their outstanding service and dedication to the patrons of College Library.
