Aiden Culver receives Undergraduate Research Award

April 24, 2025

Each year the UW-Madison Libraries offer an Undergraduate Research Award to support and celebrate excellence in undergraduate, library-based research. Undergraduate students who intend to make creative and intensive use of library resources as part of a semester or year-long research project (capstone, independent study, thesis, performance, exhibit, etc.) are encouraged to apply. We are pleased to announce that Aiden Culver is the recipient of this year’s award. He will present on his senior honors thesis Hog Heaven: The Ethics of Farmed Animal Well-Being and Death at the Archives Student Historian and Libraries Undergraduate Research Award joint reception on Thursday, May 8th, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at Steenbock Library, Room 240.

The reception will include introductions and an overview of the Undergraduate Research Award and Student Historian Program, followed by presentations from this year’s Student Historians and Undergraduate Research Award winner. In addition to Aiden’s presentation, Student Historian Ana Shriver will present on her project: Documenting UW-Madison’s First-Generation Latine Immigrant Experience. Student Historian Marena Fox Baker will also discuss her project: The American Indian Movement (AIM) and Student Activism at UW-Madison.

As a philosophy major, Aiden’s honors thesis was overseen by his  advisor, Dr. James Goodrich, an assistant professor of philosophy. He was assisted in his research by Kevin Kurdylo and the Undergraduate Research Award Committee (Jessica Newman, Raina Bloom, Angel Tang, and Christopher Perez). Please join us in honoring the work of these impressive student researchers.
