About this Guide

Asian/American Women’s representation in the media has undoubtedly increased in the last five to ten years, and while this is certainly an important change, a critical lens still needs to be applied to understand the historic and current challenges Asian/American Women face in the media and their representation. It raises questions such as: who exactly is being represented? In what way are they represented and what story are they being used to tell? What are the larger implications of Asian/American women’s (under)representation? How are Asian/American women using media to combat dangerous stereotypes and the lived realities they influence?

While no means a complete list, this bibliography will hopefully serve as an introductory resource to help navigate and interrogate these important questions.

This bibliography is number 95 in the series “Bibliographies in Gender and Women’s Studies,” published by the University of Wisconsin System Office of the Gender and Women’s Studies Librarian.
