Gender and Women’s Studies (GWS) is an interdisciplinary field that examines women’s experiences and gender roles as they affect the lives of women and men, culture, and the course of history. Here you will find more information regarding GWS collection development at the UW-Madison Libraries.
The Office of the GWSL has a non-circulating collection of biographical dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks, guides, and other reference books on women and gender. Access to the GWSL Collection has changed due to COVID-19.
Comprised of more than 2,500 volumes, the James W. Jones Collection of Gay and Lesbian Literature offers a unique look into the evolution of gay literature and culture over time. Dr. Jones’ dedication to examining the LGBTQ+ experience led to a collection that will have a great impact on students and researchers for years to come.
