Dorothy: Global films about gender and women

Dorothy is a database of documentary, experimental, and feature films about women, gender, and LGBTQ+ topics. Most of the content consists of films and television shows produced since 2010. International films, those directed by women, and subjects such as work and innovation, LGBTQ communities, survivors of violence, activism, and other key topics in gender and women’s studies are most prominent.

Videos in the Library Catalog

Videos in UW-Madison campus libraries are cataloged in the Library Catalog. Simply search the title in the search box on the library’s homepage or use the Advanced Search to enter keywords to search and check the box for Videos, Slides, Films.

Here’s a search set of all DVDs with the subject word “women,” “feminist,” “feminism,” or “lesbian.” Here are just those in English-language.

Streaming Video

UW Madison community members can access several streaming video databases, including Kanopy, Docuseek2, and Films on Demand. The holdings of these streaming video databases are also included in the library catalog, so you can search for a title in the catalog and if we have it in one of our streaming video databases, it will be listed in the record. For a more complete listing, please see the Audio/Video Databases page.
