Chapter 18 of the UWS Administrative code grants university facilities the right to control facility access and hours of operation. In order to maintain and preserve a purposeful, academic research environment, anonymous entry and unauthorized presence in Memorial Library is prohibited. If at any time you are asked by library staff or their agents to show your ID or card, please do so. Failure to comply with this request may result in being asked to leave, or your access privileges being revoked. To enter Memorial Library, patrons must produce a valid UW-Madison ID, Community Borrowing, or University of Wisconsin System ID card.
Visitors without the above identification are welcome to visit Memorial Library but must first obtain a day pass at the Welcome Desk near the library entrance on State Street. Day passes are subject to limitations and are granted to those who produce valid identification (an unexpired government-issued photo ID such as a Driver’s License, State ID, passport, or tribal ID). Visitors may obtain a day pass once every 7 days. Visitors requiring more frequent access should apply for a Community Borrowing Card or an Extended Day Pass.

Parents or guardians must accompany patrons under 18 years of age.
Fraudulent use or reproduction of a UW-Madison ID is a violation of Wisconsin Criminal Statutes, Sec. 943.38. Expired and fraudulent IDs may be confiscated.
Please, do not block entrances, exits, stairwells, or corridors by standing, sitting, or lying on the floor. These must be kept free from obstruction to allow users to walk freely at all times.
