Shakespeare in Wisconsin 2016: The Music
As part of Shakespeare in Wisconsin 2016, Mills Music Library has mounted a display in the Memorial Library lobby of materials related to three area productions:
- Romeo and Juliet, music by Gounod, libretto in French by J. Barbier & M. Carré, which premiered in Paris on April 27, 1867. Area production: Madison Opera. Materials from the Tams-Witmark Wisconsin Collection.
- Falstaff, music by Verdi, libretto in Italian by Arrigo Boito, premiered in Milan on February 9, 1893. Area production: University Opera.
- Return to the Forbidden Planet, music by rock and roll stars of the 1950s & 1960s, libretto in English by Bob Carlton, premiered in London on September 11, 1989. Area production: Laconia High School.
We have two more displays of Shakespeare-related materials in Mills Music Library to help celebrate Shakespeare in Wisconsin 2016, including LPs, DVDs, CDs, books, and scores.
