Folk Music and the Nordic Newcomers: Swedish Immigrant Musicians in the Upper Midwest

Join 2024 Musician-in-Residence Renee Vaughan (nyckelharpa) for a public presentation on her research into first-generation Swedish immigrant musicians. Based on a variety of sources (from Mills Music Library and elsewhere) and contacts on both sides of the Atlantic, Vaughan will present her findings and the biographies of a variety of incredible Swedish immigrant musicians. Vaughan has created a site called Nordic Newcomers, where she has posted the results of her research to date. She intends to continue adding musicians and details as she finds them.
