Lesley Moyo named as Associate University Librarian for Public Services

UW–Madison Libraries, Vice Provost Ed Van Gemert, is pleased to announce that Lesley Moyo, currently Professor and Director for Research & Instructional Services at Virginia Tech University Libraries, has been selected as the new Associate University Librarian for Public Services.

“Lesley Moyo possesses significant and broad experience in many areas of library service,” says Vice Provost Ed Van Gemert. “The skills she brings provide us with opportunities to re-envision public services in ways that will support our new strategic directions and will resonate with the library staff and the university community. I am eager for Lesley to be a part of our team. She presents and demonstrates just the right blend of experience, pragmatism, and vision for how the UW–Madison Libraries can be positioned to thrive today and into the future.”

Since joining the University Libraries at Virginia Tech as Director for Research and Instructional Services, Moyo has provided leadership and administrative oversight for a breath of programs and user services, including the College Librarian Program, that provide tailored support across academic disciplines. She has also facilitated the development of instructional programs and research services that integrate innovative use of technology.

At both Virginia Tech and Penn State where she was Head of the Gateway Libraries, Moyo has developed programs and services for scholars and researchers working in networked electronic environments, including the development of virtual reference services, expansion of services to eLearners, assessment of web scale discovery services, to name a few. She is a leader in library advocacy and outreach to the academic community, and has led campus programs that recognize and celebrate institutional accomplishments in research and scholarship.

Moyo is well-versed in issues that are important to institutional success and the role of the research libraries in supporting the strategic mission of the university. She has collaborated with university administrators, deans, faculty, and students in developing research and instructional services and resources that support the research, teaching, and learning missions of the library and the institution.

Commenting on her appointment, Moyo said “I am excited to be joining a passionate team of professionals at the UW–Madison Libraries at a time of momentous change and opportunity in the library and information world. I look forward to collaborating with the UW–Madison Libraries leadership and other stakeholders in advancing the Libraries strategic agenda.”

Moyo’s appointment is effective March 1, 2014.
