Angel Tang Named 2025 American Library Association Emerging Leader
We are delighted to announce that Angel Tang, one of our outstanding Science & Engineering Librarians, has been selected for the 2025 cohort of the American Library Association (ALA) Emerging Leaders program! As a valued member of the Libraries’ Biosciences and Research Data Services Teams, her innovative spirit has led to new outreach strategies, enhanced instructional programs and workshops, and expanded support for research data management across campus.
Angel’s dedication to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment is evident through her efforts to build strong relationships with faculty, students, and colleagues. She has been instrumental in providing leadership for the Information Specialist Internship Program and mentoring student interns. Notably, she spearheads our partnership with the Center for Educational Opportunity (CeO), connecting librarians with CeO students to support their academic success and help them navigate their college experience.
Beyond our campus, Angel has been actively engaged in professional service at the national level, participating in organizations such as the Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA) and the Research Data Access and Preservation Association (RDAP). She is also deeply involved in community initiatives, volunteering on committees at the Madison Public Library. Angel is a member of the Junior League of Madison and was recently appointed to their leadership team to support initiatives that promote leadership development and transformation in the region. In recognition of her impact on her profession and community, Angel was named to the Association of Junior Leagues International 2024 cohort of “40 under 40” for “exemplifying the spirit of empowerment, leadership, and community impact.”
Reflecting on this achievement, Angel shared, “I’m excited to meet and collaborate with colleagues from other institutions and expand my capacities for problem solving in a leadership role. This opportunity is really thanks to all the mentorship and guidance that I’ve received from my colleagues at UW-Madison Libraries over the past few years, and I am incredibly grateful for their support. I intend to use skills learned from this program to advance our mission to deliver exemplary services and increase our engagement with students and researchers at UW-Madison.”
Angel’s record of commitment to library users, professional service, and community engagement demonstrates her potential to be a transformational leader. We are proud to have her as part of our team and look forward to the incredible impact she will continue to make at UW-Madison and within the broader world of librarianship.
Please join us in congratulating Angel on this outstanding achievement!
