Special Collections Closed July 3-4, 2023
The Department of Special Collections reading room and exhibit area will be closed July 3-4, 2023. We will resume our normal hours of Monday-Friday, 9 AM-5 PM, on Wednesday, July 5. See our reading room and exhibit area hours for more information.
Shown above and below, in the spirit of the first days in July, are some relevant numerals from a Specimen book of wood type: From the collection of the Silver Buckle Press (1999), printed to commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Silver Buckle Press at the UW-Madison campus.
Through a partnership established in 2016, Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, has taken on the responsibility to house and care for the Silver Buckle Press and its collection. UW Digitized Collections also makes available online in the Silver Buckle Press collection a core sample of printing history materials, primarily from the SBP’s reference shelf.
Also in UW Digitized Collections is a collection of archival and printed materials from the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum itself, including Hamilton woodtype (published in Two Rivers, approx. 1973–1982), with relevant numerals from Kabel Light and Kaufmann Bold, as shown below:
