Capture Standards

Book Copy System Capture – Access-level projects

  • 300 dpi
  • GoldenThread device target captured at the beginning of each session (project) and day
  • Custom curve created for each camera/computer based on performance assessment using the GoldenThread Analysis software
  • RAW image workflow and images exported to TIFF via CaptureOne

Book Copy System Capture – Preservation-level projects

  • 400 dpi
  • GoldenThread device target captured at the beginning of each session (project) and day
  • GoldenThread object target captured with each page depending on project
  • Custom curve created for each session based on performance assessment using the GoldenThread Analysis software
  • RAW image workflow and images exported to TIFF via CaptureOne

Flatbed Scanning

  • 300 dpi for text-based material
  • For photographic material aim for 2000–5000 pixels on the longest edge of the images. This generally means:
    • 300 dpi for material larger than 5″ x 7″
    • 600 dpi for material smaller than 5″ x 7″
  • 24-bit color
  • All adjustments on the Epson Scan utility are unchecked.
  • Histogram settings are created for each machine based on performance assessment using the GoldenThread Analysis software
  • Scan to TIFF images

High Speed Scanning

  • 300 dpi (color/grayscale) or 600 dpi (bitonal)
  • 24-bit color, 8-bit grayscale, or 1-bit bitonal depending on material
  • Scan to TIFF images
